The Asia Foundation seeks a Director for Governance Reform Programs initially to be based in San Francisco, but with possible transfer of the position to Asia within one to two years. The Director is responsible for providing conceptual leadership and organizational backstopping for creation and design of innovative, high-impact programs related to governance reform in Asian countries. Sectoral areas covered include counter-corruption, strengthening central executive institutions (such as the Cabinet or Office of Prime Minister), local and municipal governance, and parliamentary development. He/she manages headquarters engagement with the Foundation’s country office staff on governance program strategy, project design, proposal preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The Director and his/her team also tracks relevant literature and engages with the international donor community, keeping abreast of developments in the field of governance reform and maintaining the Foundation as a thought leader in the above areas.
Education: Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Political Economy, International Development, International Relations, or other relevant field.
Requirements: 7+ years of professional experience in the design and implementation of development programs in at least two of the governance-related areas noted above. Experience with innovative program development and proposal preparation essential. Excellent writing and verbal communication, and team building and team management skills required. Willingness and capacity to travel extensively in Asia (roughly 25%, subject to availability of travel funds). Experience living and working in Asia as well as strong knowledge of the main bilateral and/or multilateral donor agencies preferred.
